Teeth whitening is the process of lightening the color of the teeth. Teeth whitening treatment is used when the teeth turn yellow over time for various reasons. It can be achieved by changing the internal or external color of tooth enamel. Changing the chromogens in or on the tooth is called whitening.

What is the most effective method for teeth whitening?

The most effective method of teeth whitening is combined whitening. (both home type and office whitening).

How is home type whitening applied?

After the measurement is taken from the mouth, a personalized whitening plate is prepared. A certain amount of teeth whitening gel (10-15% carbamide peroxide) is applied to this special plaque.

How long does Home type whitening take?

You can perform your whitening procedures as your doctor deems appropriate. Processing time varies up to 2-3 hours or 7-8 hours.

How much whitening gel should be put?

The point to be considered in home type whitening is not to put too much gel in it. Otherwise, the overflowing gel will irritate your gum tissue. In such cases, the gums should be washed immediately and creams containing vitamin E should be applied to the irritated area.

What is in-office teeth whitening?

It is a teeth whitening method used in the dental clinic. It is suitable for patients who do not have enough time for whitening at home. It provides effective whitening in a much shorter time. The whitening gel applied to the teeth by the dentist is activated by UV rays or a dental laser and the whitening process takes about 1 hour.

What is combined teeth whitening?

It is the method of both home and in-office whitening. After it is applied in the office, it is supported by whitening at home for 2-3 days.

What is internal teeth whitening?

It is applied to teeth that change color after root canal treatment. The filling in the tooth is removed. Whitening gel is applied into the open cavity. Then the tooth is closed with a temporary filling. This session is repeated until the desired color is reached.

Is internal teeth whitening harmful to teeth?

The canal filling should be insulated very well. If it is well isolated, there is no harm in whitening the internal teeth.

Things to Consider After Teeth Whitening

It is recommended that you stay away from acidic, pigmented foods and drinks for 48 hours after a professional teeth whitening procedure and do not use anything that can cause discoloration. This is often referred to as the “White Diet”, which is a short-term diet consisting of white or light-colored foods and beverages.
Teeth whitening is not a permanent procedure. Its effect can last from a few months to 3 years. It also varies from person to person. The whitening effect will not last long if you constantly consume red wine, tea or coffee, which can stain your teeth.
